The off-page optimization tips and tricks equally have a great role to play in getting high rankings.

First off, you ought to come up with a good, catchy and short page title for your site. The page title should only feature your keywords and the shorter it is the more relevant to the keywords the search engines will see it, hence give you high rankings. Avoid using such words as ‘and’ ‘on’, etc and instead use "|". It is equally good to combine the keywords so that you can reduce on the number of words on the page title. This will greatly boost the strength of every individual keyword and as a result improve your ranking immediately. As such, when the search engines scrawl the title, they’ll only come across the keywords.

"h1" header tags

The most important keyword should also feature in the first header tag, which should be strategically located as close to the top of the page as possible. Keep in mind that when search engines like Google scrawl a web page, it starts from the top left hand side going towards the bottom right hand side. As such, it would be good to put your ‘h1’ header tag as the title for content you will have on the page.

"h2" header tags

Next on the list is the ‘h2’ header tag, which is more of a sub heading for the web page. Place the 2nd most important keyword in your ‘h2’ header tag and let the header tag appear somewhere on the top half of the webpage. As you may have noticed, it is always advisable to place the main keyword in the ‘h1’ header tags and the secondary keyword in the ‘h2’ header tags.

Next follows the content for the webpage that you are optimizing. As you write content, it would be good to distribute the main keywords all over the copy, but not to over do it. Avoid mentioning every keyword in a sort of natural way while writing but make sure that each or at least one of your main keywords features in 1-2 paragraphs, which will be determined by the size of your web page. The major keyword should be mentioned at the top left and the bottom right side of the web page you are optimizing.

Once you are done creating content for your web page, you should read through the content as you underline, bold, and italicize some of the main keywords. You should however be cautious while doing this, only applying it once in each keyword, lest you do more harm than good.

Right use of “alt" image tags

Lastly, click on the top most image of your web page i.e. the site’s header graphic and put an ‘alt’ image tag and key in your major keyword followed by the word header. For example, you can write something like ‘ladies shoes header’. Next click on 2 more graphics on the webpage and key in your other keywords as you add some words such as ‘image’ and graphic’ at the end. This makes the search engine not perceive it as spam.
