Installing a theme on your WordPress site is quite simple and does not take long at all. A theme can be downloaded from a WordPress theme website, which is downloaded in a RAR or ZIP file. You will then unzip the package and upload the folder onto your website folder, and activate the theme from your dashboard. The whole process takes about two minutes or less, from start to finish. We will go through all the steps, one by one.
STEP I: You will have to search for a theme or get someone to make you one. No matter where you get it from, it must be in a folder. So, first step is to get that file onto the computer you are going to be working from.
STEP II: Unzip the package, and the theme files should be in a folder. The folder can be named anything, but usually it contains the theme name. If all the files just pop out, then you should put all the files in a folder and name it anything you want.
STEP III: Using a FTP program, login to the root channel of your web host. After logging in, look for wp-content and double click on it to open the folder. Once in the folder, you will see other files and folders. Other folders which you will see are plugins and themes.
STEP IV: Click on themes to go into that folder. Now, you will see an index.php and some more folders. All the other folders you see here are for other themes.
STEP V: Click and drag your theme, from your computer to the folder on your website. Once all files are uploaded, you can logout of the FTP client.
STEP VI: Login to your WordPress dashboard, and go to the section titled, appearance. You will now see the theme which you uploaded. Click on the theme name and click activate. Once activated, your theme will be visible to all the public visitors.
